Execution temporarelly stayed because of positive test on Covid-19

AI-Index:

Following efforts by the lawyers of Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam, an appeal hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday 10 November, but the Court of Appeal  halted the proceedings as Nagaenthran tested positive for Covid-19.

Together with the hearing, the execution (originally set for 10 November) was also stayed and the timeline for the next hearing has not yet been fixed, likely as the authorities will wait for a negative test to proceed. We will update you as soon as we have more details on this.

The family have now been told that they will not be allowed to visit him anymore and will be returning to Malaysia. Cruelly, they will only be allowed to have phone calls, and not video calls.

The execution has NOT been completely called off, and it is critical that the pressure on the authorities continues.

The case of Nagaenthran K Dharmalingam has rightly captured a lot of attention in Singapore, Malaysia and around the world.

Please continue to take action for Nagaenthran, as we do not want the huge amount of momentum around his case to drop. There is still an opportunity to stop his unlawful execution.
