Jailed lawyer’s health at serious risk

We have an important update to share on human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh.

On 2 December 2020, Nasrin Sotoudeh’s husband Reza Khandan posted on Twitter that despite the medical examiner extending Nasrin’s leave by two weeks, she was called back to Shahr-e Ray prison (also known as Gharchak), in Varamin, yesterday evening. The same day, Reza Khandan also posted on Facebook a note written by Nasrin Sotoudeh which, in part, she said «They have told me to return to prison and today I will return to prison… under these circumstances I do not like to talk about how in the last three weeks because of coronavirus, I have not been able to hug my children». We understand that on 30 November 2020, the medical examiner also informed her that she was still infectious with Covid-19 and needed to remain in quarantine for a further two weeks.

In the note posted on FB, Nasrin Sotoudeh also wrote about Ahmadreza Djalali and said that «…I have a duty to declare my concerns for the situation of Ahmadreza Djalali and ask all those who can possibly help, to pay attention to his case. Free Ahmadreza Djalali this very day». For further information about Ahmadreza Djalali see the original UA 038/17-5 here.

We plan to update the Urgent Action on Nasrin Sotoudeh. Until then, we encourage you to share the above update with supporters and activists.

We have shared the following on AmnestyIran’s Twitter:

Iranian human rights lawyer #NasrinSotoudeh, who has been told she is still infectious w/Covid-19, is unjustly jailed in Shahr-e Ray prison without access to the specialized medical care she needs after being ordered to prison on 2 December. @khamenei_ir must #FreeNasrin now!
