Two journalists still face up to 14 years in prison

There has been no further information or movement on the case of Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, signalling that the judicial process could be dragged out for months – raising particular concerns about the Myanmar military in its continued threats, harassment and persecution of those who investigate into violence and discrimination happening in Northern Rakhine State.

The targeting of journalists in Myanmar has been ongoing for the past couple of years and will likely continue in the foreseeable future, with fears that similar incidents will ensue.

We are therefore extending the appeal deadline to 23 April 2018 and continue to call for the immediate and unconditional release of the two Reuters journalists are prisoners of conscience who have been detained solely for the peaceful exercise of their human right to freedom of expression.
