Director of migrant shelter at risk
Marisela Aguirre Durán, a director of a migrant’s shelter in Salamanca, Guanajuato state, central Mexico, recently received threats because of her human rights work on behalf of migrants. She was at risk of harassment and attack, along with other workers at the shelter.
Amnesty International has decided to halt requests for appeals on behalf of Marisela Aguirre Durán and other workers at the migrant’s shelter in Salamanca, Guanajuato state. The decision was taken after a re-evaluation of the security situation. Thank you to all those who initiated action on behalf of these migrants rights defenders. We will continue to keep the situation under close observation.
